Our 2002
race season had a great start with our veteran rider Mike Hacker, winning the
first mile national in Claremount, Oklahoma. Two weeks later at the TT race in
Springfield, Illinois Mikes foot came off the peg while landing a jump resulting
in a spiral fracture of both the tibia and fibula. This injury to his left leg
kept him out for the summer.
Jake
Johnson in his rookie year as an AMA Pro stepped up to the plate and took over
Mike's ride. Jake amazed everyone as he racked up seven top five finishes
in the series. He scored his first win at Tunica, Misissippi an indoor Short
Track National abord a Honda 450 CRF. To
top off a great season - against doctors orders - Mike Hacker returned for the
last GNC National of the year at Du Quoin, Illinois....."The Magic
Mile". He made a draft pass at the finish line to best Kevin Atherton and
to win the last race in a thrilling finish! Hacker said the difference was in
his motorcycle. He said " The bike made it easier because I could go at
will. If I got behind, I could get back up front. Having an awesome bike made it
easier". Mike was riding a Harley- Davidson XR750 built and maintained by
George Sudziarski and Rich Hanson at the Moroney's Race Shop. Bikes were tuned
and set up by Pat Moroney and Clayton Oliver while at the track. Next
year (2003) Moroney;s will have the strongest GNC team on the circuit. Make sure
you stay tuned to Speed channel on Two Wheel Tuesday for all the TV coverage. This
team would not be possible without our customers at Moroney's. We owe it all to
you. Thanks. Pat
